Beastchaser is a a paranormal thriller trilogy that follows Ryder McLean, a young travel writer plagued by a series of waking dreams that take him to a primitive yet futuristic world, where he finds himself embroiled in a murder investigation.
On a shuttle ride home from LAX, after three weeks island hopping the Pacific on his latest assignment, he is suddenly spirited away by a bright white light. The next thing he knows he’s looking through a rifle scope focused on the keynote speaker at a high-class reception. He feels the rifle go off and a heartbeat later the speaker’s head explodes. Instantly the light reappears and he is back in the shuttle.
Once home, the bizarre waking dreams begin to come more often, and last longer. Each one takes him to a place called Nord, where he shadows a young detective called Badger, who is working the murder case. The young detective is one of four lifelong friends who seek guidance from a spirit helper using the ancient Indian philosophy of the Medicine Wheel. It has never worked for them in the past, butl now, through some cosmic wire-crossing Ryder has been tapped to fill the bill. But while Ryder is fully conscious of everything going on in their world, no one there is able to see or hear him. He remains stuck somewhere in between.
Ryder’s connection is strongest with Badger, but a series of separate dreams find him in a dark cave where he witnesses a pair of horrific death ceremonies by men with painted bodies wearing bizarre masks. Ryder learns that the ceremonial killings are carried out by the same assassin Badger is investigating, and when he discovers that the killer is planning to ambush Badger in order to secure his escape. Ryder must find a way beyond the limbo of the In Between to save his friend and help destroy the evil that threatens Nord’s way of life forever.
