Matt Ralphs (Author)
Matt Ralphs is a freelance writer of children's fiction and nonfiction. While working for many years as an editor, he helped other writers create novels, comics, and lavish art books. He lives on the Grand Union Canal in England on a boat he christened Nostromo because Alien is his favorite movie.

Kaley McKean (Illustrator)
Kaley McKean is a Canadian illustrator with a Bachelor of Design Studies in Illustration from the Ontario College of Art and Design. She has worked in children's publishing, editorial, packaging, advertising, and more. In her spare time, she can be found tending to her overgrown garden or hunting for mushrooms in the woods. Kaley currently lives with her partner and fellow illustrator, Nolan Pelletier, and an array of plants and animals in Toronto, Canada.

This definitely marks the first time I've seen the "University of Cambridge" get mentioned on the cover of a children's book. That probably has something to do with the fact that it was created in consultation with marine biologist Dr. Helen Scales alongside Dr. Roz Wade from the Museum of Zoology. Kids aren't gonna care about that, though. They're going to be a lot more interested in the fact that the book is printed in two different types of fluorescent ink (orange AND green!). The weirdos of the deep get their day in the sun as this book takes a deep dive into the trenches. Best of all? Pages even fold out!—Betsy Bird, A Fuse #8 Production
