A celebration life, Beyond Time and Space by Paula Amar Schwartz is as filled with joy as it is sorrow. With over seventy poems with titles such as "Solstice in Iceland," "In Honor of the Prestice Torah" and "Poetry Is Another Sort of Music," she unlocks the innermost sanctum of thought, word and deed. She swims, climbs, rests upon the mountain's edge and watches the moon rise. Deeply personal, these fierce, finely wrought poems introduce a powerful new voice in contemporary American poetry. Of particular interest are her study of the villanelle, a short poem of fixed form written in tercets with a final quatrain based on two rhymes, that and her travels, which take readers to Indonesia, Latin America, Iceland and China. Each poem is distinct and refreshingly straightforward with simple rhyming patterns and accessible imagery. Truly an enchanting debut, this collection feels essential and necessary, a timeless journey into the recesses of the earth, mind and spirit.
