Upon condition that a like sum should be raised by subseription. The citizens having contributed the required amount, the vote referred to took etfeet. The library was opened for publie use February 2: 1371. With books on its shelves. In a small building in the Lower Mills Village. Where it remained till May 138 when it was removed to its present room in the building of the Milton Associates. It has been supported by annual grants by the town. Aml has. Since it was opened. Received two bequests. The larger from the late Sarah Vose, and another from the late E. G. L'ueker. It has received several gifts. One of them being from the late Henry V. Kidder.
