“Sheer, anarchic fierceness of imagination . . . [A] raw and vital book.” --The New York Times

“Few contemporary writers mix the outrageous and the hilarious with greater zest. . . . Chuck Palahniuk’s splenetic, anarchic glee makes him a worthy heir to Ken Kesey.” —Newsday

"Palahniuk displays a Swiftian gift for satire, as well as a knack for crafting mesmerizing sentences." --San Francisco Examiner

“Puts a bleakly humorous spin on self-help, addiction recovery, and childhood trauma . . . [F]unny mantra-like prose plows toward the mayhem it portends from the get-go.” --The Village Voice

Meh

"The thing with Chuck Palahniuk books is that they’re always so bad until they’re good. This one was cringy but got the point across."

Stephanie (2/5)

Gross, gritty, and awesome!

"This book was amazing!! Palahniuk is a masterful satirist, and it’s no surprise Choke is just as eventful and well-written as his other works. I purchased the book in-store and it was in perfect condition, and was an excellent read all the way through. although, in true Palahniuk fashion, there were some parts that were harder to stomach. All in all though, it’s a fantastic assessment of society’s expectations and their effect on a man’s psyche."

Lauryn (5/5)

mediocre but some important topics

"this isn’t a pretty book so don’t read it expecting it to be. this is self destructive, raw, and simply just a person struggling and making awful decisions in the process. definitely one of palahniuk’s heavier books, but otherwise some important themes are uncovered in this book."

Michaela (3/5)

Choke

"Sick Chuck on steroids. I didnt want to read a lot of it but couldnt stop myself. And, yes, I laughed a lot too."

Sara (4/5)

Pass

"I find it really odd this was Palahniuk's first NYT best seller. His other works offer more."

Alexia (2/5)

Good

"Palahniuk is great at writing characters that are troubled in one way or another"

Eric (4/5)

Overdetailed, raw

"I like many genres of writing: Fantasy, horror, sci-fi etc. This book was one of the only books I thought I would love and was not able to finish. It seemed as if the author was simply overdoing it with the sexual language."

Jennifer (3/5)

Would definitely recommend.

"One of my favourite books. Well written with very interesting characters."

Jessica (5/5)

Another F'd Up Lead Character

"Chuck is the best at creating these completely messed up characters that both disgust & make you cheer for at the same time. Victor is such a degenerate but you can't help but hope that things work out for him. Love the dark humor that he writes with in his novels. You'll love this book if you love Chuck as much as I do. For serious."

AdamH (4/5)

Good read

"Great plot, and interesting overall, just a bit of an odd writing style."

Nicholas (4/5)
