The Body Feels, The Face Reveals, Consciousness Emerges,The thought of António Damásio and A. Freitas-Magalhães is analyzed and articulated in an integrative reading of the human mind, placing emotion at the center of consciousness. The book demonstrates that emotion is a primary neurobiological process that organizes the body, manifests itself on the face and, when lived, gives rise to consciousness. By crossing the interiority of feeling, described by Damásio, with the exteriority of facial expression, proposed by Freitas-Magalhães, the book goes beyond the dichotomy between emotion and reason and presents a unified model Emotion-Face-Consciousness. Based on contemporary neuroscience and pioneering contributions such as the integration of pain and love as basic emotions, this work proposes a new science of the human mind, where the body feels, the face reveals and consciousness emerges.
