Beverly Cleary at her best!

"Through the vehicle of writing letters as part of a class project, Leigh Botts finds an expression for his loneliness and pain at his parents' divorce, and his aching longing for lost time with his father. I found myself wishing at times for a fairy tale ending and the parents reunite, but reality is often not that cooperative. A work of depth, and worthy of the Newbery it garnered."

Love Beverley Cleary, but not this book

"I didn't love the letter format that this book takes. Beverley Cleary wrote so many amazing books, but in my opinion, this isn't one of them. Clearly I am outvoted as it won a Newberry Medal, but if you don't care for this format, you could find it a difficult read, too."
