Just terrific

"Terrific mystery taking place on a small island off the coast of Iceland. Keeps you guessing right until the very end. . . . and then you are probably still wrong. Great story. Well written."

Nordic noir Christie-inspired mystery

"""𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭. 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞. "" Eliza Reid's debut novel is described as ""The Good Wife meets Agatha Christie""; as a big fan of both, I couldn't agree more. Canadian ambassador Graeme and his wife Jane are visiting Heimaey, the only inhabited island in Veswtmannaeyjar off the coast of Iceland, in hopes of convincing an Icelandic seafood company to set up in Nova Scotia. Tensions are high through the visit and when the deputy ambassador dies suddenly at a dinner party, all eyes are on Graeme. Can Jane uncover the secrets and corruption that someone was ready to kill for?! Reid has drawn on her experience as Iceland's former First Lady, to infuse her story with the culture and landscape of the country. It truly feels like a love letter to the Nordic people, and I feel like I learned a lot about Iceland and some of its heritage through the descriptions of place, people, and history. The beginning chapters are fraught with tension between the believable characters, which only get higher as motives are revealed and the air of suspicion grows around everyone, including Jane herself. Reid is clearly influenced by Agatha Christie, with the impending storm on an isolated island, a plant that could be used as position, a missing cyanide capsule, a reenactment of the crime, and the gathering of the suspects for the grand reveal, all feeling like they could come directly out of a Christie novel! I really liked the young officer, Jónas; people underestimate him due to his lack of experience but he makes up for it in shrewd observations. I'd love to see more of him in future books. The ending is solid, with a twist that both makes sense and is slightly dark and tragic. Death On The Island is a great Nordic noir Christie-inspired mystery. It is the first in a planned book series, and has been optioned for television, which I think will work very well."

Review of Death on an Island by Eliza Reid

"I enjoyed reading about an area of Iceland that I was not familiar with. However, the format of the chapters and timeline are not my favourite. Found the pace a little bit slow but still a very good read."

Fabulous book!

"What a great read! I bought the book because I heard the author’s interview with Tom Powers on CBC Q. I was intrigued! I was not disappointed!"

Good Read

"This is the first book in a series. It starts off very well but all the description of Iceland gets to be a bit much. The main female character is well developed and looking forward to reading more about her in future books. Quite a good read. l"

Amazing 4⭐️ Death on the

"Amazing 4⭐️ Death on the Island by Eliza Reid reminder me of classic murder mystery era like Agatha Christie with a Nordic Icelandic twist. A very public murder at a diplomatic dinner party where everyone is a suspect on a small Icelandic island. This murder mystery was everything that I loved about the genre. With every suspect hiding a secret, you don’t know who to trust. The ending had me in disbelief, in the best way possible. I am looking forward to reading more from Eliza Reid in the future. Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review."
