Excerpt from Driftwood: A Modest Collection of Random Rhymes, Written at Odd Times for Odd People
The undersigned, yours truly, does not expect the lines recorded herein to meet the approval of the classic ally educated. His literary attainments are not worth mentioning. He never attended anything higher than a common country school, and that but three months of the year for a verv brief term of years. This preface is written that those who read may be prepared for the worst. A preface is not usually read at all. This is unfortunate, as in many instances it would save people the annoyance of reading the book. In our present state of evolutionary civilization there are too many books, and people would be happier Should they read less and think more.
