Turan Gönen, a distinguished figure in the field of electrical engineering, held the esteemed position of being a professor of electrical engineering and also served as the director of the Electrical Power Educational Institute at California State University, Sacramento. Gonen's educational background was adorned with a B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering from Istanbul Technical College, followed by a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Iowa State University. His academic pursuits extended further as he achieved an M.S. in industrial engineering and a Ph.D. with a co-major in industrial engineering from Iowa State University, alongside obtaining an MBA from the University of Oklahoma. Gonen first authored this book in 1986. His contributions to academia and research were substantial, marked by a portfolio of over 100 technical papers. His expertise was recognized as he held the distinction of being an IEEE Senior Member. He passed away in 2014

Chee-Wooi Ten (Senior Member, IEEE) holds the position of Professor of Electrical Engineering at Michigan Tech. He focuses on investigating rare events using system risk models and data science, with a keen interest in untangling complex interactions between power grids and transportation systems to advance decarbonization. His efforts center on crafting cyber-aware security strategies for bulk power systems, validated through steady-state and dynamic analyses, emphasizing the need to anticipate disruptions in a context of distributed generation. Ten earned degrees from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. from University College Dublin. He joined Michigan Tech in 2010, after experience as a power application engineer at Siemens. His research covers critical cyberinfrastructures modeling, SCADA automation applications in power grids, and he's edited for IEEE and Elsevier journals, authoring the textbook "Electric Power: Distribution Emergency Operation."

Ali Mehrizi-Sani (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada.,He is currently an Associate Professor with Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. He is an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, IEEE Power Engineering Letters, and IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution. Dr. Mehrizi-Sani was a recipient of the 2018 IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award and 2017 IEEE Mac E. Van Valkenburg Early Career Teaching Award among his recognitions.

Praise for the Third Edition:
"This classic book is now updated to include new chapters on distributed generation, renewable energy (wind and solar), modem energy-storage systems, and smart grids. ¿ Besides the wealth of theoretical information and design details, the book is loaded with practical information useful for the working distribution engineer (e.g., ground grid resistance, power meter connections, wire ampacity, and much more). The appendix is an excellent resource for learning many of the essential tools used by distribution engineers (i.e., per unit calculations, impedance tables, symbols used in schematics, and definitions). For academic use, questions at the end of each chapter provide the teacher with easy homework assignments. Whether you are a professor teaching power engineering looking for a course textbook or a working power engineer, this textbook provides a wealth of knowledge and information useful for the power distribution engineer."
¿John J. Shea, Eaton Corporation, Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA, from IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine, May/June 2015

"This book gives a wide overview on topics of electric power distribution engineering, delivers insight in special subjects and treats both conventional and actual issues. People interested in electric power distribution will find Turan Gonen¿s textbook very helpful to get technical information regarding all interesting topics in this field."
¿Nejila Parspour, Professor f¿r Electrical Energy Conversion, University of Stuttgart, Germany

"This text provides a very accessible overview of topics in distribution engineering, from fundamental design principles to the transition to a smarter, more active distribution grid. ¿ The material is particularly accessible for those students transferring to power engineering from other engineering disciplines."
¿Dr. James Pilgrim, University of Southampton, UK

Praise for the Previous Edition:
"An outstanding technical reference for power engineering students and working professionals having broad overage with excellent insight into the practical aspects of power system distribution engineering¿ this is suitable for a senior and graduate textbook in power engineering. Well worth the investment."
¿IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine
