Superintendent (Ret’d) William C. Malone, CFE, CRM, ICD.D, QTE, spent nearly thirty years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, rising from frontline policing to senior national roles in national security, organized crime, proceeds of crime, and financial intelligence. A proud Newfoundlander, he began his career in small detachments in New Brunswick, learning the profession one call at a time before moving into specialized units and senior command positions across Canada.
Over the course of his policing career, Malone represented Canada at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the Caribbean FATF (CFATF), the United Nations, and other international bodies, contributing to the global response to money laundering, terrorist financing, and organized crime. His operational work extended well beyond Canada’s borders. He served as a United Nations peacekeeper in Haiti and later as Deputy Commander at the Canadian Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he oversaw Canadian police operations and mentored international partners during an active insurgency. These experiences formed the foundation of his first book, Cops in Kabul: A Newfoundland Peacekeeper in Afghanistan, a ground-level account of policing and daily life in a war zone.
After retiring from the RCMP, Malone continued to work at the intersection of financial crime, technology, and governance. He has served as an anti–money laundering (AML) and financial crime risk management expert with Verafin (a Nasdaq company) and as Corporate Security Manager (Canada) with Nasdaq Inc., advising on fraud, cyber risk, and regulatory compliance in the financial services technology sector. He has also worked as an AML/CFT consultant and policy adviser to UNODC, FATF, and CFATF, delivering training to law enforcement agencies and financial intelligence units across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Asia-Pacific region.
In governance roles, Malone served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee of the St. John’s International Airport Authority, where he helped modernize board practices and integrate cybersecurity and enterprise risk management into board-level oversight. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier University and professional designations as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Canadian Risk Management (CRM) professional, Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) graduate, and Qualified Technology Expert (QTE).
Throughout his career, Malone has received the RCMP Long Service Medal, the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, Operational Service Medals for Afghanistan and Africa, and the UN Peacekeeping Medal for Haiti. Fully bilingual in English and French, he continues to write, speak, and advise on public safety, leadership, mental health, and the evolving landscape of financial crime and cyber risk. He is married to Nola Noseworthy and is the proud father of four daughters.
