Excerpts of Christian Wisdom is the culmination of decades spent studying the writings of the Early Church Fathers, alongside commentaries from stalwarts of the faith such as Matthew Henry and John Wesley, and other extrabiblical texts from the second century BC to the first century AD. This collection challenges the notion that biblical writings did not exist in completed form until the Nicene Council of 325 AD, offering evidence that Christian thought was flourishing long before that time.

Jeffrey Thompson's dedication to reading as many of the mostly forgotten early Christian writers as possible resulted in a rich archive of particularly impactful excerpts. Two decades of careful curation come together in Excerpts of Christian Wisdom, offering a meditation for each week of the year, for a total of 52 reflections. 

Each meditation combines a brief biography of an early church writer, a related scripture passage, and a carefully chosen excerpt, with commentary highlighting the enduring wisdom of these early Christian voices and their relevance for modern spiritual growth.
