“Ian Rivero’s spirited approach to diasporic cooking gives readers the confidence to trust their senses and loosen up in the kitchen—or, as Ian recommends for sawsawan, ‘Just eyeball it!’ Filipino Style is at once everyday and transportive, with beautiful visuals and refreshing sincerity that made me long for places I’ve never been.”—MEIJIE (MEI) LIAO, two-time James Beard–nominated recipe developer and content creator

“What I value in Ian’s book is the perspective of someone who grew up loving Filipino food then went searching for the context that explains how a dish travels from its origins into family tradition. His recipes carry that same care; some include notes so detailed it feels like he is beside you in the kitchen, offering the kind of loving back-seat cooking comments we all grew up with.”—ERWAN HEUSSAFF, FEATR media

Filipino Style is a magical, third-culture love letter to Filipino food, replete with soulful and achingly personal stories, along with must-make recipes—like Chicken Inasal, Kare Kare, and Ginataang Bilo Bilo—that remind me of my Filipino mother-in-law’s cooking in Bacolod. Ian Rivero is a culinary wizard who has beautifully placed Filipino cuisine on the main stage—kain tayo, indeed!”—KAT LIEU, IACP Award winner and author of 108 Asian Cookies

“Filipino food has never stood still. In Filipino Style, Ian Rivero shows how our food travels, adapts, and becomes personal without losing sight of where it came from. A generous, approachable book about cooking Filipino food not as something preserved in time, but something lived, shared, and carried forward.”—BUDGIE MONTOYA, chef

“Ian’s story resonated with me deeply—it’s familiar, layered, and unmistakably bold. Seeing the imagery of the Philippines alongside these recipes brought me even closer to my roots. His fresh, exciting perspective on Filipino cooking fills me with pride, making this a cookbook the Filipino diaspora will truly celebrate. (I especially loved the curated karaoke menu—the dishes are pure sarap, and who doesn’t love karaoke?!) This is an authentic celebration of Filipino culture, and I’m here for every bite.”—WOLDY REYES, chef and author of In the Kusina

“Food that tastes like home away from home...that’s the thing so many of us in the diaspora are trying to hold on to through cooking. Ian’s fresh take on Filipino food ranges from classic Kare Kare to his modern spin on lumpia (Lumpiang Dynamite). Whether you’re already familiar with Filipino food or completely new to it, Filipino Style will be the book you reach for again and again in your kitchen.”—RIE MCCLENNY, author of Make It Japanese

“A beautiful and delicious cookbook that brings the Philippines into your kitchen. Ian blends his Canadian upbringing and Filipino roots through heartfelt stories about growing up as a first-generation Filipino Canadian and how food shapes and transforms identity. The book preserves Filipino cooking traditions while offering refreshing twists on beloved favorites. This is the kind of cookbook that makes you want to gather the people you love, find something to celebrate, and share a kamayan feast together.”—SAENG DOUANGDARA, chef and author of The Lao Kitchen
IAN RIVERO is the voice and recipe developer behind @iankewks, a platform dedicated to sharing Filipino culture and everyday recipes. From travel stories to family recipes, he hopes to inspire a new generation of home cooks and immigrants who share his same passion for food and experiences as a third-culture kid. When he's not cooking, he's working part-time as a nurse in the cardiac unit and co-running a videography business.
