“A heartbreaking journey into every parent's worst nightmare. Scott Oake does us all a public service by unravelling the misconceptions around addiction and recovery. Poignant, and at times, maddening, For the Love of a Son is ultimately a testament to the bonds of family and the unconditional love of a father and husband.”

One Family’s Battle with Addiction

"Very moving true story of a young man and his family’s battle with addiction"

Canjo (5/5)

Could not put down and highly recommend

"I was gifted this book from daughter, born same year as Bruce, and loved how open and honest and although tragic, such a beautiful legacy been left behind by son and mother"

Wars (5/5)

A Great Store with Lots of Selection

"I really enjoyed my experience at Indigo. The staff were very helpful in finding the book I was looking for. They offered assistance in locating the area and took the time to direct me in the area where it was located. I enjoy the selection as well as the recommendations of books at Indigo which makes for a very positive experience."

Maxi (5/5)

For the Love of a Son

"An interesting and meaningful read. The author, Scott Oake, is a very devoted parent and is making amazing contributions to society as a result of his ongoing work."

Dennis (4/5)

An important read

"I think this is an important book to read. It helped me to understand more of what happens in a family struggling with a son with addiction. I appreciated the balance of hopefulness in how it was written, as the subject is so hard."

Karen M. (5/5)

A great help to understand more about addiction.

"Scott made himself very vulnerable in presenting experiences they had during their son’s life of addiction. It was heartbreaking. The book was a fast read but certainly kept my interest from start to finish. I’d highly recommend it."

Millie (5/5)

The name was appropriate foe the book

"The book was very sad and troubling, what drugs can do to a person, and parents caught in between but more information is needed"

Darlene (5/5)

Insightful

"Personal and touching. Appreciate the author sharing his journey."

PMXmko (4/5)

For the Love of a Son

"A sad but realistic account how a person can become addicted to drugs. The efforts of others to help the addicted person are ineffective unless the addict wants to stop themselves. The second part of the book follows the efforts of others to start a treatment facility."

Rocko (5/5)

Fantastic Book

"Loved this book! Very relatable for me as I grew up in Winnipeg and mostly in the area where the Bruce Oake Recovery Center is now located. The difficult details of his son's life and passing and also the passing of his wife must have been very hard to write about."

Lainie S. (5/5)
