“Think of it as a month with Scheharazade . . . No Gaiman fan can be without [Fragile Things] . . . If you’ve never encountered Gaiman’s unique voice before, this volume is an excellent introduction, with easily digestible stories that can be devoured in one sitting. Still, you may find yourself gorging at this narrative feast, not stopping until you’ve read two or three or even half a dozen at a time.” - St. Louis Post-Dispatch
“A powerful and oddly unified collection, a perfect introduction to Gaiman’s work for new readers and a thrilling reminder to his long-time fans . . . [T]he shorter prose form allows Gaiman a greater freedom of whimsy and provocation than even his graphic work, with stunning results.” - Toronto Star
“Readers will be reminded most in these stories of that master craftsman...Ray Bradbury...Gothic tales of high caliber.” - Baltimore Sun
“A prodigiously imaginative collection . . . The best of these clever fantasy metafictions explore the mysteries of artistic inspiration.” - New York Times Book Review, Editor's Choice

“The tales of Fragile Things are nibbles and bits of Gaiman’s immensely satisfying inner landscape. They are fiercely playful and very grim, wisps of whimsy and wonder buoyed by the happy heart of a tragic poet.” - USA Today
“Fiercely playful and very grim, wisps of whimsy and wonder buoyed by the happy heart of a tragic poet.” - USA Today

Another classic Gaiman collection.

"Truly fantastic collection. Gaiman is a master storyteller."

His Best Work

"I love Neil Gaiman's novels, but his short stories are really where he shines. Smoke and Mirrors, and Fragile Things are the two compilations that made me love short stories as a narrative medium. I also recommend the audiobook versions of these books. Neil Gaiman does the narration himself and he really brings the stories to life."

Chris (5/5)

A mixed bag

"This was a first for me, in that I only enjoyed about half of the stories in it. Normally, I love anything Neil Gaiman writes. But he does explain it, in that a lot of these stories were written in another's style. I do not enjoy that. I love Neil Gaiman's work for being his work. That being said, I did enjoy the stories in this book he wrote as himself. They will be worth rereading down the line."

Somewhat disappointed

"Being a HUGE fan of Gaiman's comic books and novels, I find that most of the stories in this book with the exception of the American Gods novella felt a little under underwhelming so by the end of the story I was either thinking. . . ""wait, what?"" or ""that's it?"". I just felt that they were either too weird or incomplete. I just recommend you try it out at the library first before going out and paying money for it."

Hits & Misses

"I really wanted to love this book. I love short story collections, and I really enjoy everything else I have read by Neil Gaiman. However, I do have conflicted feelings about these ""short fictions and wonders"". Some stuff in here is pure gold. I particularly enjoyed 'A Study in Emerald', 'October in the Chair', and 'The Monarch of the Glen', and I found the poetry to be delightful. Most stories had interesting parts, but there were a few that I just found too disturbing, or too abstract to get into. I don't think fans of Neil Gaiman will find it a waste of time, but I also do not feel like this is a must read."

Amazing!!!

"Gaiman has a way with words that is both utterly terrifying and incredible! He crafts these amazing stories in such a short amount of time, it's honestly mind blowing to read. Definitely one of my favourite collections ever. #plumreview"
