A True Classic

"I actually finished this book a week ago, but I've been struggling to come up with the right words for how this made me feel. What's certain is that there are at least four scenes here that will haunt me for the rest of my reading life. Walls' true gift (as many have pointed out) is to write her parents with sympathy while also detailing their negligent and often despicable behaviour. She transports you to a place where you're still that little kid whose belief in your parents is resolute, and forces you to look at the tragic flaws that make us all human. Walls' parents may have been more human than most, but there's something universal here that will infuriate and touch the most hardened reader. Glad I finally got around to it! I'm an Indigo employee."

A good read

"Jeannette Walls’ memoir of growing up with her siblings despite their parents (not because of them) is an engrossing read. It is also an indictment of a child welfare system that allows severe neglect to “fly below the radar”, leaving some children to virtually raise themselves. The style is factual and journalistic for the most part, but every so often the author’s ambivalent love and hope for her ne’er do well parents comes through with heartbreaking clarity. I would have liked to learn some more about how these experiences shaped her later life, but then maybe that would require a second book."

The Glass Castle

"Good read. It’s sad how they were raised but the parents were able to keep positive and raise the kids right"

"This is one of the best biographies I’ve ever read. I’ve bought multiple copies as I’ve re read it so many times the books get into bad shape and I always want a nice copy to put out. Beautifully written with love, sorrow, and so much more"
