James Hilton (1900-1954), est un romancier et scénariste britannique. Il débute comme journaliste. Horizons perdus est son premier roman, et remporte un énorme succès, devenant même le livre préféré du Président Roosevelt. Presque tous ses livres sont devenus des films, dont le plus célèbre est Good bye, Mr Chips. Travaillant à Hollywood, il remporta un Oscar en 1942 pour son scénario de Madame Miniver.
