Very Helpful Book

This author is so incredibly knowledgeable. I read the first edition of this book many years ago and knew back then that he could help me find the right dietary balance for my body. With this newer version of the book, Richard Heft digs deeper into the energetics of food and herbs, drawing on both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Dietary Therapy and Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of healing. Each of us will fall, to one degree or another, into a particular internal pattern, as though within our bodies we each have our own personal "weather system". For example, I tend to love vegan meals but too many and my body becomes too cold and too damp if I Eat more raw salads and fruits than is good for me, so my goal is to provide my body with food, herbs and supplements that increase internal warmth and help dry up excess dampness. This book offers many suggestions and lots of tools that support your body in finding its natural balance.

Very insightful! A little confusing....

There is A LOT of information in this book. A lot of very helpful information that quite frankly I find fascinating. I have always been interested in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) and the theory of hot/cold in the body that can be remedied by foods and herbs. For that alone, this book is amazing. However, the editing of the book can be a bit...confusing to get around. It can be a bit choppy (language barrier, perhaps?) and there are abbreviations that were not identified that you are left trying to guess what it means. But these minor things are not enough to deter me from finishing and even still referencing this book!

I have all of the authors previous books. I learn so much each time I read one. There are a lot of great things about this author. For one, it is rare that an author will get back to you when you email him. I had some health issues back in 2008 when I first contacted him. I began to read the first book I found by him and it truly helped me put things in perspective in terms of my health and it worked! He really expands upon health concerns that no other book in this genre touches upon which really sold me. I can't wait to dive into this new book as well. This author's work is delivered in a very simple but powerful way. His books are a "best kept secret' as far as I'm concerned and should be on everyone's shelf. I am so grateful for this body of work!!!.
