Sam Hecht and Kim Colin founded Industrial Facility in 2002, and have since collaborated with companies as diverse as Emeco, Issey Miyake, and Muji. The studio has won more than 50 international awards and its designs feature in numerous permanent collections including MoMA, SFMoMA, and the Art Institute of Chicago; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Their book Usefulness in Small Things was published in 2011.

"Industrial Facility is the first monograph documenting the complete works of world-renowned design office, Industrial Facility, and its founders Sam Hecht and Kim Colin. This beautifully designed book is a fascinating exploration into Hecht and Colin's inspiring portfolio and sheds light on their growth from a respected cult-following to one of the most influential and progressive studios of industrial design."—New Design

"With a sprawling selection of work ranging from coat hangers to toothbrushes, this handsome monograph exemplifies the subtle attention to detail that has solidified Industrial Facility as a powerhouse firm."—Metropolis Online
