"With a shrewd command of the narrative, Jewell turns a chance encounter into a disturbing treatise on the past’s ability to assert itself in ways both unwelcome and unlikely . . . . [a] pitch-black spine-tingler."

Great read

"[Employee of indigo-ca] I throughly enjoyed this book. It had numerous characters that were very well developed throughout the story. Each character seemed to have had a dark and traumatic past that was very unsettling (in a good way for a suspension novel) and the characters help set the creepy and uneasy feeling of this novel. This book is not the kind to have numerous twist throughout but rather a story that builds steadily until it reaches the twists and turns. I tried to anticipate each possible avenue the story could take and I did not succeed! Well worth the read, It is a story about a lady named Jane who has been divorced twice and lives on a large estate she inherited after losing both parents and her brother. She lives a simple life with her dogs and the house that has fallen into disrepair. While walking her dogs through her estate property Jane locates another small dog that appears to be lost. While trying to find the dog's owner Jane meets a man named Stuart who resides in a house that brings back horrible memories from Jane's past. Jane also learns about a missing girl that is tied to that house. She then sets out to determine if there is a link to what happened to her in the past and the current missing girl. I haven't read a Lisa Jewel book in some time and can say I really enjoyed this one. As I mentioned before this novel builds up the story as it goes and is more of a slower burn mystery. As the story continued I found it harder and harder to put down because I couldn't wait to finish and find out what happened and how things ended and whether they linked up to Jane's past. Thank your NetGallery for allowing me to read this and provide a review!"
