How the USA Got into the Current State

"This book is a very timely read for people closely following the current political situation in the USA and possibly an alert for possible future developments in Canada."

Is What You See Really What You Want ?

"A most interesting and captivating overview of modern day religious struggles in western/ American culture. Working through the past century, the author describes the ""evangelical"" religious scene and developments alongside an historical review of the social culture of that time. The adoption by evangelicals of the cultural/social mores, values, lifestyles, and aspirations are outlined. Yet overarching all this is a theme that emerges revealing the deepening addiction of the religious right to a particular obsession with the distinction of gender idolization of the male leader. Thus enters John Wayne over and over again, as the image of manhood under the religion of Jesus. This is argued both broadly in the times and developments of national aspirations and deeply into the religious aspirations and practices of the evangelicals. The book shows the continuing chase after a manhood (like John Wayne the actor) that is strong, ambitious, warrior type, aggressive, etc. , into our modern times. It also reveals the potential dangers and trends that may yet develop. This book is worth a serious read, yet with a cautious evaluation by the reader of one's own personal admiration or disgust with such an understanding of cultural and religion."

Jesus and John Wayne

"Amazing insight into power of the Evangelical Christians in the United States. Warrior Christians who use the Bible to suit their desire to rule the world on their terms."

Fascinating read

"I am enjoying a well researched book. The author offers a historical perspective on how white male patriarchy came to be in the U. S. Her explanations are non-judgemental and are backed by research. I recommend this book to those who are interested in how the U. S. has come to this place politically in their relationship with the political church."

Eye Opening

"Quite an indepth analysis in my quest to understand what helped lead us to politics as it looks today. It is not a condemanation of Christian belief."

A Book for Our Times

"An excellent read for those who are struggling to make sense of the seeming inconsistencies between the Gospels' message of tolerance and love, and the behaviour of the evangelical movement in the United States. I understand much better the support from this community for a person like Trump, as well as their opposition towards abortion, and their complete rejection of gay marriage and LGBQT rights."

[Du Mez’s] astonishing gifting was in the way she took 1000 puzzle pieces and fit them together. I don’t swallow books whole but the evidence for much of what she’s written is staring us in the face.—Beth Moore, on Twitter
