Lewis Carroll, pseudonyme de Charles Lutwidge Dogson (1832-1898), est un romancier, essayiste, photographe et mathématicien britannique. Après Les Aventures d'Alice au pays des merveilles - illustré par John Tenniel -, il publie De l'autre côté du miroir (1872), La Chasse au Snark (1876) et Sylvie et Bruno (1889). Écrite par un clergyman très respectable, son oeuvre provoque le démantèlement de tout un univers intellectuel, et parfois moral, qui a permis l'entrée de Lewis Carroll au panthéon des surréalistes.
