Kaikeyi makes Hindu mythology accessible and entertaining

"Kaikeyi is a wonderful retelling of parts of Hindu mythology that those outside of India and Indian culture might be unfamiliar with. Patel makes it all very accessible. Would definitely recommend to anyone."

RN B. (5/5)

Amazing

"I started this book and didn’t put it down until I’d finished it eight hours later. Excellent writing, excellent world building."

Brey (5/5)

Absolutely worth reading

"It's such an delightful book. It's mythology you don't really see a lot of and the characters are so interesting."

InaneFox (5/5)

Banger

"Super engaging novel, enjoyed every second of it. The story telling and character development are top notch."

TF (5/5)

Love it! It is HER story!

"My current read. I cannot put this one down! The story is so compelling & is a true feminist retelling of a mythological story (that I do not know, but you don’t need to to understand Kaikeyi). I can’t wait to finish it!"

Didi (5/5)

Mid

"Kinda Mid. They keep restating obvious things for the time period and it lowers the effectiveness of the writing"

Sad (2/5)

Good!

"I’ve enjoyed the book so far. Received as a Christmas present!"

Chicky10 (4/5)

Amazing

"Finally, an ethnically diverse story that’s an easy read"

Maha K. (4/5)

Memorable Debut

"Kaikeyi is a stunning retelling of a Hindu story from the perspective of a vilified queen. Filled with hope and rage, stunning imagery, and characters that you root for, this book stays with you long after you put it down. I disagree with the Circe comparison (the only thing similar is they're from female perspectives) but I still loved this story and have been recommending it to everyone."

Keira W. (5/5)

I couldn't put it down!

"I spent many nights reading until 1or 2am and did not realize it. A fantastic read! I highly recommend it."

"A powerful examination of a woman maligned by myth and men. Patel’s imagination takes a hammer to the image of a stonehearted villainess and reveals the woman within, whose choices sparked immortal legends. Compulsively readable and infinitely compassionate, this is the story I’ve been yearning for all my life."—Roshani Chokshi, New York Times bestselling author of the Aru Shah and Gilded Wolves series
Vaishnavi Patel is the author of the instant New York Times bestseller, Kaikeyi. A lawyer specializing in civil rights, she likes to write at the intersection of Indian myth, feminism, and anticolonialism. She grew up in and around Chicago and, in her spare time, enjoys activities that are almost stereotypically Midwestern: knitting, ice skating, drinking hot chocolate, and making hotdish.
