Wealth, power, and overkill are the foundations of Dr Kakusei's empire, but even a trillionaire scientist needs a vacation. To this end, the Kakusei elite trade the frozen Arctic for the tropical heat of Grand Starling, a private island forged from "artificial inhumane technologies" and hidden from the world's maps.
What begins as a high-stakes business trip to meet secretive investors soon devolves into a series of absurd and violent encounters. While Dr Kakusei navigates the politics of shadow organizations and illegal arms deals, her staff deals with more immediate problems like ghosts and the brutal, unexplained death of the island's namesake.
