Sixteen-year-old Bou Fujiwara has lost everything. Swept up in the chaos of war in the southern states, he finds himself at rock bottom...caged, malnourished, and forgotten in a dingy border-town slave shop with little hope of seeing tomorrow.
Then the door opens.
Dr Kakusei is not the kind of person you'd expect to walk into a place like this. Sharp-tongued, brilliantly eccentric, and absurdly wealthy, she has come looking for a household assistant... and against all odds, she picks Bou.
Whisked away to the fortified, gloriously chaotic Kakusei HQ in the frozen north of the Arctic Square, Bou steps into a world unlike anything he's known, a rotating cast of larger-than-life personalities, a workplace where explosions are practically routine, and a boss who is equal parts terrifying and oddly... kind.
As Bou tries to find his footing (cleaning, cooking, and quietly trying to make himself indispensable) he begins to discover that belonging somewhere might be less about where you end up, and more about who you end up there with.
