The family of Madelaine Doucet and Michel Richard was caught up in the 1755 mass expulsion of Acadian families from Eastern Canada's Fundy Basin. When Michel was forced aboard ship with other Acadian family men and transported south, Madelaine and their children left everything behind and ran. They continued to run, with other refugee families, with the English in relentless pursuit, for the next eight years.
