"Full of shocking twists and turns." —Chatelaine

"Captivating. . . . Liberty Street leaves us with an uncomfortable truth and makes it impossible to look away." —Literary Review of Canada

"Liberty Street is a well-researched balance of fact and fiction that will both illuminate and entertain. It is a most satisfying and well-paced historical mystery. You think you know what will happen, but maybe you don’t." —Winnipeg Free Press

"A riveting read." —The Peterborough Examiner

"Heather Marshall's latest is dynamite. Two stories twine together with skill and suspense—a courageous young female journalist going undercover at a 1960s women's prison to uncover rumors of abuse; a dogged 1990s detective bruised from her own emotional wounds—creating a tale both timely and explosive. Liberty Street will linger long in the memory." —Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Briar Club

"Liberty Street confronts us with a past far closer than we'd like to admit. Heather Marshall writes with clarity and urgency about women's autonomy, reminding us that the fight for respect and choice is far from finished. A story that unsettles, ignites and refuses to let you look away—a fierce reclaiming of women's voices once silenced." —Ellen Keith, bestselling author of The Dutch Orphan

"In her latest triumph, Heather Marshall exposes Toronto's shadowed past and, with haunting grace, gives voice to the women history tried to forget. Visceral and provocative, Liberty Street ensures no woman is left behind." —Karma Brown, #1 bestselling author of Recipe for a Perfect Wife

"Liberty Street is the story of resistance we need right now: a brilliantly heartfelt novel of two remarkable women—separated by decades yet linked by a passion for justice—who take on patriarchal corruption. You will be on the edge of your seat as this story comes to its unforgettable conclusion." —Maia Caron, bestselling author of The Last Secret

"Heather Marshall writes with such heart, precision and power. In Liberty Street, she brings hidden truths and forgotten women vividly to life, weaving a story that is both beautifully told and urgently needed. Evocative, important and gripping." —Marissa Stapley, New York Times bestselling author of Lucky

"Utterly captivating. I found myself sneaking extra pages in whenever I could. Heather Marshall writes with urgency and passion about the injustices placed on women’s lives and weaves it into a story that will latch onto your mind, with characters so real you’ll want to reach through the pages to shout at them, but also to ache and cry and root for them. It’s said often, and maybe too easily, but in this case I believe it to be true: This book is a triumph. Heather Marshall is a dedicated champion of women’s rights, revealing the hard truths behind untold women’s stories." —Charlene Carr, author of Hold My Girl

"Liberty Street is a beautiful, harrowing novel with something for every reader: Mystery, action, tenderness, a righteous fury at historical injustice. Heather Marshall is a brilliant archeologist unearthing women's lost history." —Elizabeth Renzetti, author of What She Said

Amazing!

"Liberty Street was truly captivating, eye-opening, and suspenseful. I loved the mystery element, the dual historical timeline, the varied life experiences explored, and the way the character’s stories were brought together. Heather Marshall reveals so much about this point in history of women’s rights in Canada. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come and especially enjoyable for me to see the role Chatelaine magazine played in the evolution of feminism since my mom had a subscription so I grew up with that magazine in my house and I would read it too. This author does such a great job of blending the historical details with personal stories, and the characters feel so real and easy to connect with. It’s emotional, tragic, heartbreaking, but also inspiring. Overall, it’s a powerful, memorable read about strength, resilience, and the impact people can have on each other. An unforgettable read!"

Saying this book is AMAZING is understatement.

"Saying this book is AMAZING is understatement. This book changed me as a person. Both Emily and Rachel's stories showed how women were and some continue to be treated today. SO MANY FEELINGS - rage, sadness, frustration and a tiny a bit of hope. My heart aches for the women in the novel and women I've met who have said and meant, who would care? I care so much. We MUST continuing fighting until we really are equal. I'm so grateful to have read this book and learn an important dark part of Canada's history to make me reflect on Canada's present."

Historical fiction at its best

"Liberty Street is a compelling and captivating read that will both break and capture your heart, The story is based in Toronto in the early 1960's when women had no rights and could be sent to jail for the slightest infraction. It's hard to believe Canada was like this in that era. We meet Emily who puts her heart and soul and life at risk to get the womens prison shut down and justice brought to those that were victims. In current day Rachel is ia detective with her own tragic backstory who is tasked with finding out who the unkown body is in the cemetery. I admired these two ladies: cried with them , cheered them on and worried for them. Liberty Street is where evil meets good and is darkly atmospheric and fascinating read that will stay with me for days to come. I predict the Liberty Street will be many Book Club choice of the month. Simply put its historical fiction at its best."

Canadian Historical Fiction Perfection!

"Another fantastic historical fiction book from Heather Marshall. Marshall really knows how to write a moving novel packed full of punch. I adore the Canadian historical fiction she writes. with incredible female characters fighting all odds. This is another dual POV novel, both in the 196o's and 1996, intertwining history. You will absolutely feel every emotion as you follow along with the characters experience, fully immersed in their lives and happenings. Bravo, Heather Marshall, another INCREDIBLE Canadian historical fiction novel. I can't wait for the next!"

My Favourite Read of the Year!

"Historical fiction at it's finest! A totally immersive story based on real life characters and events. Not only did I learn about the shocking and unbelievable laws and procedures that actually existed to suppress women, I found myself rooting for the characters and their bravery. Definitely a story that I continued to think about long after reading and one I will highly recommend! My favourite read this year!"
