—Lesley Kara, international bestselling author of The Rumor

“[F]inds all the right twists and turns . . . Barton successfully spins and weaves the novel's various storylines with ease. . . . As in any good thriller, there's more to the story than meets the eye. . . . Readers will savor untangling the intricate web Barton weaves.”
—USA Today

“Fiona Barton does it again in her new novel Local Gone Missing. . . . An excellent read for fans of the mystery and suspense genre. Perfect for fans of Kerry Wilkinson, Harlen Coben, and Karin Slaughter.”
—Seattle Book Review

“Barton presents such an embarrassment of riches that the tale has almost run its course before the coppers have a chance to sit down with Stuart Bennett, the just-freed burglar. . . . Layers and layers of unlovely revelations about people who seemed perfectly nice.”

“Barton’s facility at creating plausible characters makes emotional involvement with them easy. Minette Walters fans will be pleased.”

—E! Online

Local Gone Missing follows a variety of residents in the tiny English seaside town, from an inquisitive cleaning lady with a dark past to vacationers with a secret agenda. It all comes to a head during a musical festival that ends with dual overdoses, a possible murder and a host of spilled secrets. New York Times bestselling author Fiona Barton spins a tangled web of dirty money, bloodshed and deceit. Though Local Gone Missing’s plot is wonderfully twisty with a surprising and satisfying conclusion, it’s the characters who stand out. Foremost among them is the compelling and well-drawn Elise, who’s struggling to adjust to life back on the force after returning from medical leave. Thanks to Barton’s airtight plotting and impeccable characterization, a minibreak by the sea will never seem relaxing again.”
—BookPage

“A captivating read. A first-grade suspense novel and highly recommended. . . . Barton demonstrates, one more time, why she is considered a master of the craft.”
—Mystery Tribune

“Sometimes all you need is a smart, swift mystery you can knock out in one too-hot afternoon.”
—Entertainment Weekly

Cracking Good Read

"I have read all of Fiona Barton's book except this one. It is just as good as her others. Elise King is a detective on leave recovering from breast cancer. One of the townspeople goes missing and she know him. She does her own investigation into where Charlie might have gone but she is called back to work to lead the investigation proper. She now has all the resources of the police department as well as local gossip and opinions of the man's character. The book goes back and forth in time but at least it tells us when it does so not to leave us confused. The past has a bearing on the characters involved and leads us to suspect several people who might be involved. There are secrets aplenty and they weave their way into the conclusion."

Fine

"It was Okay but I have the pleasure of reading better by Sandra Brown"

No T. (3/5)

AMAZING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Great read. Really keeps you hooked until the last page"

Lulucats (5/5)

okay, but just okay

"I have read The Widow and The Suspect and enjoyed them both for what they were, and enough to continue on through the collection but I found this to be a slow, predictable and too-many-turns/storylines read. Also left with unanswered storylines come the end. Not sure how it’s managed the reviews it has…. Get it on sale, if at all."

Alyssajane433 (3/5)

Boring and shallow!

"I bought this book as a ""staff pick"". What a mistake. It was confusing and shallow. I kept waiting for the story to come together and make sense. I love a good mystery but this story was an epic fail for me. Makes me wonder if the staff recommend books in order to boost sales???? I will also swerve from any other books by the same author."

Ray1 (1/5)

Interesting characters, plenty of twists and turns

"Really loved this. . . lots of twists and turns, interesting characters. Jumps back and forth with the timeline which was a little confusing at first, but it made me revisit parts of the story which was actually a good thing"

Kathryn (5/5)

An enjoyable who-dunnit

"An inside look at small town gossip and how stories get circulating from the perspective a police detective on the mend."

MW-artist (5/5)

Gets you from first chapter

"Thoroughly enjoy Fiona Barton's books. Like her earlier novels this one grabs you from the beginning with interesting characters and a good plot."

LoriLee (4/5)

It is indeed a local that goes missing

"Very intriguing book! Took a second to get into it and the characters but once you know them, it’s great!"

Holly (4/5)

Fitting for the story

"Good read but a bit jumpy as the characters thoughts and actions are revealed from a “now” or “before” prospective"
