Looking for balance and perspective, read this

Great book to read on a daily basis

"Loved this book. It walks you through four weeks with some down-to-earth meditations to read that ground you in the finitude of life. I loved the author's approach to the topics addressed, with no pressure to make sweeping changes in your life. I plan to read this over many times!"

Bob C. (5/5)

An Incentive for Self Reflection

"Quite common sensible, practical and backed up with reference to leading psychology and philosophy. A good exercise to engage in over 4 weeks. I think there are more forceful texts:for example,Frederick Lenoir,La Sagesse."

Alan C. (4/5)

Interesting read for over achievers!

"Interesting read for over achievers! We instinctively know this information, however, we've been indoctrinated to DO more and more. No wonder we are all stressed --- we are trying to achieve an illusion."

Colleen B. (5/5)

Living wisely - a book for our times

"It is a pleasure to comment on this book. I first heard Burkeman on a few podcasts ( eg. Sam Harris ) and have also previously read his book - ""4000 weeks. . . "". ""Meditations for Mortals"" is a kind, witty, self-aware presentation of often unexpected ways to consider our patterns of decision making and our approaches to whatever life presents. Burkeman's work encourages us to step back and figure out how to have/make a good life in times of challenge and uncertainty. I first got the book from our library and read it one-day-at-a-time as designed. Then I bought a print copy to keep on hand so I can reflect on it conveniently and often. I recommend it as a thoughtful work helping us with life's small matters and as well with our existential questions."

—Cal Newport, author of Slow Productivity

“Liberating and humane.”
Kirkus

“I follow Oliver Burkeman’s personal, literary, and journalistic adventures into wisdom with admiration and exhilaration. Now he bring us a ‘retreat of the mind’ in a very special book. We should all read this, preferably in the company of others—for the sake of our aching world as well as the state of our souls.”
—Krista Tippett, author of Being Wise

“Full of wisdom and comfort. I enjoyed every page and read it in a single sitting. This is a really important book about embracing truth and reality.”
—Chris van Tulleken, author of Ultra-Processed People

Meditations for Mortals offers a bracing and refreshing antidote for what ails high achievers. With crackling wit and counterintuitive wisdom, Burkeman shows that it’s okay―and often smarter―to do less, let some goals slide, and embrace our imperfections. This book is both a comfort and a challenge―exactly what our trying times demand.”
―Daniel H. Pink, New York Times bestselling author of The Power of Regret

“A delightful, engaging, rigorous and reassuring book. The world would be a better and less frightening place if more people stopped what they are doing and read this book”

The Guardian

“Life-changing.”
Stylist

“Anyone fruitlessly chasing the Insta-perfect life might prefer the advice of bestselling self-help author Burkeman, who advocates that we embrace ‘imperfectionism’. . . . I am soothed by his mantra that one’s life is never truly sorted.”
Financial Times

“[R]efreshingly realistic. . . . Burkeman walks a fine line between pushing us to do better and expecting us to be perfect. . . . In an age where we are streamlining our lives, prioritizing productivity and convincing ourselves that we can do it all, Burkeman flips the script—he meets us with the exact humanity and patience he found in his own path to fulfillment.”
