Excellent retelling of the Arthur myth

"Young Morgan of Cornwall lives an idyllic life at Tintagel, her father's castle, with her parents and her two sisters, until King Uther Pendragon murders her father and forces her mother into marriage, helped along by Merlin. Furious, brilliant, and vengeful, Morgan defies her stepfather and engages in a forbidden education, discovering an affinity for the healing arts. But Morgan is little more than a pawn in Uther's machinations, and she finds herself wed to Urien of Gore and banished to an insular northern kingdom, forbidden to use her talents and skills. But she will not be suppressed: she will use all her wits and cunning to regain her independence, even if she risks losing everything. I love a good retelling of the Arthur myth. Several I've read have followed Morgan, but I think this may be my favourite so far. This version of Morgan is strong and defiant, sharp-tongued yet wise. I think this is the best portrayal of the woman Thomas Mallory simply drew as an evil queen. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy"

"Fantastic book!! I couldn't put it down, and I just read the sequel which was just as good! Wild, beautiful, vivid, an absolute masterpiece"

Had so much potential

"It had so much potential, but sadly it is very predictable, and the characters are very underwhelming minus Morgan and Ayls."

Is she a villain or is she a trailblazer?

"Morgan is My Name by Sophie Keetch_x000D_ _x000D_ Book review: 5/5 ⭐️_x000D_ Genre: fantasy, legend retold _x000D_ Themes: female independence, power dynamics, court tactics, magic_x000D_ 📖 Read if you like: The Witch’s Heart, Circe, Merlin_x000D_ _x000D_ This was a shockingly good spin on the well known Arthurian legend. It reads like historical fiction imbuing all the trials and confinements of being born a woman in a time when their sole worth was seen in their ability to be quiet and bare children. Overlaid on top of that is the sinister presence of the lecherous and cruel Uther Pengdragon who killed her father and forces her mother into marriage. Not to mention the ominous Merlin who is playing his own game of trickery. _x000D_ _x000D_ Into this world enters the young and wild Morgan. Brilliant and talented she runs free on the cliffs of Cornwall. When her life unexpectedly gets upended she maintains a wrathful dissidence against her over bearing step-father. With a voracious appetite for learning she is secretly given an education, which leads to an affinity in healing and the seed of discovery for her own magic. Happy to live a quiet life helping others as a nun, she is once again used as a pawn and thrown into a life not of her choosing. _x000D_ _x000D_ Even the most congenial of marriages on first appearance can degrade on closer inspection. _x000D_ Abandoned to a northern kingdom as the country is on the verge civil war, she wishes for more than simply being a king’s property, especially one who is philandering and wishes her to be more ordinary. Playing the game of politics she must outsmart her superstitious court and find a way to independence of body and of mind. _x000D_ _x000D_ Richly imagined and full of heart you will love the vibrancy and anger that defines this young Morgan. It is a realistic feminist retelling of this would be villain and her fight for freedom. It will make you wonder how such a fierce and loyal woman becomes the dreaded sorcerer of legend. Perhaps they deserved her wrath! A wonderful start to this series (and debut at that!) that will have you immediately enchanted with both Morgan and Sophie Keetch. Both possess a lyrical quality worthy of the great sagas. If you enjoy fairytales and legends, this is one not to be missed."

Loved that the title was incorporated into the story as well. It is a powerful statement from Morgan that shows how strong she is.

"Great story and portrayal of a great character from the King Arthur story. Hoping that there will be a second one to find out what Morgan does next!"
