“This gorgeous memoir gives readers a raw and unvarnished account of what it’s like to live with and love someone with a severe mental illness. There are moments of gut-wrenching sadness—but, ultimately, the story is hopeful, even triumphant. This book basically tore out my heart and then lovingly sewed it back in place.” - Susannah Cahalan, bestselling author of Brain on Fire

A must read for everyone in today’s world

"Such an amazing insight into what many of us genuinely fear. Having a mental illness means being afraid to pass it on to your future child(ren), what the hormones would do and how they would affect you. And this book throws you into what pregnancy and post partum can be like if you suffer with mental illness. As someone who deals with mental health issues, my fear of pregnancy and post partum has weighed heavily on my mind. I’m terrified of what it would be like. This book shows you that, although mental illness is tough, women, and mothers especially, are tougher than any challenge they may face. This amazing, caring, and supportive husband, Mark, gives us insight to the struggles of not only his wife, but the struggles as a caregiver, husband, and new father. Prioritizing his wife, Giulia, and her mental wellness and health above all, he stands by her as she navigates mental illness and motherhood. Giulia shows us that no fight will be lost, as long as you give it your all. She shines and reminds us of our own strength, no matter how little it may feel at times. An inspirational and incredibly strong and insightful book woman. This book is everything from heartbreaking to heartwarming, and beautifully written. A must read for anyone who’s ever worried about how their mental illness could affect their pregnancy, parenthood, or life in general."

What a gem. So glad I picked this up!

"Not sure what to expect when I first saw this book. Knowing it was about mental illness, wasn't thinking it would be as enjoyable read as it was. It still had its heartbreaking moments, but the hope and moments of joys Mark Lukach managed to capture make this a heart warming memoir."

I really enjoyed this book.

"I agree that this book was heartbreaking but it was also a story filled with hope. I found myself on a constant rollercoaster with this book and couldn't put it down. I think it is not only a good read, but an important one as mental health affects us all."

Justine (5/5)

Heartbreaking and devastating.

"A painful and realistic depiction of the North American mental health system and its affects on the patient and family. Unfortunately, I kept reading the book waiting to reach to the hopeful part of the story, but it seems to spiral in a downward direction after the first chapter. Left me feeling depressed and at a loss for words."
