Entertaining, fun and steamy romantasy

"Book rating: 4. 5/5 ⭐️ Genre: romantasy Themes: dark academia, elemental powers, soulmates, touch her and die, forbidden magic 📖 Read if you like: Fourth Wing, Skipshock, A Deadly Education Jaymin Eve has such an easy to read and engaging tone with stories that will have you laughing out loud and fanning yourself from the steam in intervals. All the while there is an imaginatively dark world with a fast paced and action packed plot that will have you turning pages. I gobbled up this sequel with a smile on my face and my fingers crossed for a happily ever after. This series really shines in the ensemble cast and sense of family. Book one had the most endearing sibling bonds with all five Halisters sharing a really sweet dynamic where they could always depend on each other and genuinely liked each other. Book two shifts to the family you choose with friendship taking centre stage. I liked getting more from Sara and Haley and the new bandmates really rounded out the group. The snarky banter was once again top par between all the characters and the ride or die crew made this story even more heartfelt. The enemies to lovers shifted up a notch as the pair moved into mate territory with the bond between them intensifying into obsession and some hilarious stalking. Bad boy Logan Kingston arises from the shadowy enigma of Spellcaster to be a swoon worthy partner intent on taking care of Paisley whatever it takes. Not only is he extremely powerful and ridiculously wealthy, he also happens to be ripped with tattoos and in a very popular underground band. It is incredibly sweet how he always puts Paisley first and their soulmate bond is the cotton candy that makes this story even more delicious. Basically, the ideal sexy badass book boyfriend that is easy to hero worship. Paisley is dealing with a revolving door of revelations and deadly threats, but now has a new tether to life. She is easy to like and her tentative trust allows for the possibility of something truly beautiful to flourish. Her character arc was plagued by trials, but she valiantly rose to meet them without loosing her good nature in the process. The emotional toll on this character translated well and pulled at my heartstrings. There is a lot to love in this duology. It is fun and full of excitement that got me completely out of my busy mind. It’s dark academia meets she’s mine is a world full of magic, grudges and monsters. Thank you to @htpbooks @htp_hive @readmirabooks and author @jaymineve for letting me come on this wild ride with these unforgettable characters. 🎧I ended up listening to both audiobooks one after another after I read the book full through (mostly because I needed to see what happens and I can read faster than I can actively listen). Both audiobooks are cinematic in quality. The dual narration by Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood give the characters unique voices that are full of tension and emotion. It was sultry and tender when needed and full of action and palpable intent throughout. It is easy to listen to with narrators that perfectly matched the tone of the novel."
