Tim Hanley grew up in the northern Ontario mining town of Kirkland Lake, aptly named 'Hub of the North on the Mile of Gold.
If his parents were alive today they might describe him as 'a bit of a naughty child. A behaviour, that followed into his teens it landed him a three-year stint at Notre
Dame College, a boarding school in Southern Saskatchewan. It was here that he developed a love of the West and an appetite for literature.
Graduation was followed by a year of working underground at the Kerr Addison gold mine. With money in hand, he spent the next year working and travelling extensively throughout Europe before returning to Montreal with 76 cents in his pocket and at the mercy of his aunt and uncle. It was back to the depths of the gold mine.
Much to his surprize he applied and was accepted into the RCMP which brought him to Canada's Northwest. He has spent the last forty-seven years in British Columbia and the Yukon.
He and his wife Deborah have two children.
