Sheila Hurst grew up in Michigan and Massachusetts, contributing to a split personality involving a love of farmlands and the ocean. She has worked as a reporter and freelance writer with articles published in Cape Cod Life, Cape Cod Magazine, The Enterprise, and Boston newspapers. Her short stories have been Glimmer Train and Writer''s Digest finalists. Ocean Echoes is her first novel.
"Hurst''s story is suspenseful, fascinating, and well-plotted. I particularly enjoyed the dives Ellen and her assistant, Ryan, take while on the research cruise, and loved the historical aspects of the tale. Ocean Echoes is a first-rate environmental thriller, and it''s most highly recommended." - Readers'' Favorite 5-Star Review by Jack Magnus "The author has taken me on a discovery as much as she did her protagonist. I don''t know what it is about the way the prose is written, but my mind is still filled with these images of the vast blue, divers traversing the ocean below...Ocean conservationists will want to get this book into as many readers'' hands as possible." - Readers'' Favorite 5-Star Review by Benjamin Ookami "Readers who enjoy multi-faceted stories of careers, science and nature, and those who love the ocean that Ellen begins to see as alive, will find that Ocean Echoes is an evocative read especially strong in metaphor and imagery, marked with the personality of a scientist who seeks her own way of becoming alive and surviving the changes in her life." - D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review "The author adorns this tale of discovery with droplets of magic and science fiction. Readers are taken under the water whenever the protagonist makes one of her dives and they will never want to come up for air. If there''s a reader out there that wishes to be near the ocean but finds it difficult wherever they are, I would absolutely want that reader to read this book." - Cee-Jay Aurinko, Hub Pages
