The Royal United Service Museum, which is under the control of the Council of the Royal United Service Institution, was founded by His Majesty King William lv. On 25th June, 183l, it then being known as The Naval and Military Library and Museum. Lts home was originally Vanbrugh House, situated in Whitehall Yard, a house designed and built by Sir John Vanbrugh out of the ruins of that portion of Whitehall which was destroyed by fire.
