Classics with wit and humour and horror - Oscar Wilde does it all

"I read The Picture of Dorian Gray through my local library last year and just had to pick up some more Oscar Wilde. He transports us back to the late-19th century. Even though the language is slightly outdated at times, his phrasing and poetic use of language (not to mention subject matter!) all feels very modern. I love that he did not stick to one genre and could write the heck out of gothic horror, comedy, and folklore. It’s a shame that he did not live long enough to see the reach of his brief work. I highly recommend reading Oscar Wilde if you like classics with more contemporary themes."
