Paxton Plays Pickleball by Bea Gardner is about a 9 year old boy and his twin sister learning the rules of the sport of Pickleball. Since the game of Pickleball is a sport for all ages, Gardner thought it most important to teach the basic rules of the game before a youngster jumped right in banging the ball back and forth.
Bea Gardner played Pickleball for eight years, long before anyone even knew what Pickleball was. She played with 80 year old Grannies, 60 year old children of the Grannies, 40 somethings, college age kids and most definitely the Grannies' grandchildren. She played when it was necessary to put tape down to define the court on the floor of the Y where she learned the sport. She slowly graduated to a tennis court where the Pickleball lines were painted within the lines of a tennis court.
Two tennis courts gave way to four Pickleball courts and portable nets were set up to complete the Pickleball courts. Bea enjoyed the game and finally retired from Pickleball at the age of 84. That was when she decided to write this book.
At the time of her retirement Pickleball courts were being built all over the "burbs," and it is now touted as being the fastest growing sport this country has ever seen.
