As the youngest of eight children, born in the Appalachian Mountains during the great depression, the challenges that faced James Roy Moody were almost overwhelming. Often his mother, Corey, struggled to keep the family together and provide encouragement and hope in the most dismal times. James Roy not only overcame the challenges he faced, but was determined to make a difference. James Roy's love of mountain culture remained a constant troughout his life, and was shared with the many close friends he developed and maintained from around the world. His gift of teaching and learning extended beyond the classroom to make a difference in the thousands of lives he touched. Whether celebrating with dignitaries at the New York National Arts Club, enjoying the Atlanta Ballet, or traveling with both new and old friends, James Roy never lost his roots, and was determined to blend his passion for the arts with his mountain culture.
