During the Second World War, bombing raids and fighter attacks caused most of the 17,000+ deaths of Royal Canadian Air Force pilots and aircrew over the skies of Europe. Squadron leader Wess McIntosh was a flight instructor who trained many of those bomber and fighter pilots before joining the 168 Heavy Transport Squadron to fly mail quickly and safely to Canadian troops overseas.  After the war, his flying career took him on flights (risky at times) around the world, including flying between the high mountain peaks of the Andes, in Canada's far north and Africa. He retired in 1990 after 55 years of flying.
