Prequel by Rachel Maddow.

"This is a well written, very informative book. Rachel Maddow knows her stuff. I can’t wait to read her other books."

Judy L. (5/5)

Dangerous as history can repeat itself

"Rachel has written this history of US Nazi sympathizers (some as members of US Congress) in the 1930s to illustrate how dangerous our times are now with people with similar beliefs and political efforts strongly influencing the Donald Trump Maga crowd and moving the US closer to Autocracy."

Jim M. (5/5)

Must Read

"A very insightful book, gives you a sound insight."

Will S. (5/5)

Reveals a little known history

"A great read. Rachel tells an amazing story that isn’t in the history books. Very timely tomb especially with what is happening in the world today."

Bruce M. (5/5)

The beginning of a series?

"Great author with a very enlightening view on what’s happening today in American politics"

Mary (5/5)

Therefore, the title 'Prequel' is apt.

"A highly detailed account of the 1930-1940 German Government/Nazi influence and influencers within the US Congress, exactly like what is happening today with Russian/Chinese/Iranian influence in the US social media and the Republican party."

Iain M. (5/5)

Warning

"A warning of what can happen again if we do not heed the past"

POST PREQUEL AMERICA

"While I was familiar with Rachel Maddow as a television personality, I had not read any of her previous books, so the style of her writing was unknown to me. Rather than a dry historical approach she uses her facts with aplomb by adding little comments to her narrative. The reader will not know the persons she is dealing with in this book other than Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh and politicians of the day such as Huey Long and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The American Fascists (Nazi sympathizers) are colourfully presented and what I found most important are continually referred back to so that the reader can keep them all straight. Photos of the main characters are also included--not as a section of pictures but individually as they are introduced in the text. Maddow's title of ""Prequel"" reflects her fear that America is perhaps headed toward another bout of fascism if a certain previous American president is returned to power. The research in this book appears very thorough. I found only one error. Jean Harlow is listed as attending a party in Hollywood in 1939 but if she in fact was there, she must have been in a box. She died two years earlier. I found ""Prequel"" a very interesting (if not overly exciting) read and I recommend it to those who think they know all about American history in the 1930's. Believe me, you don't."

Presque

"This author gives light to a subject which is very actual and frightening."

Praise for Prequel

“Maddow’s book is a ripping read—well rendered, fast-paced and delivered with the same punch and assurance that she brings to a broadcast. . . . Prequel is a valuable window into the authoritarian mind-set—and the process by which self-professed patriots turn against democracy . . . the parallels to the present day are strong, even startling . . .”The New York Times

“[A] vivid, urgent, smart history,” and “Maddow makes a vital contribution to the history of armed fascism in the United States.”The Washington Post

“Maddow’s sublime research into the precursors of current existential threats is astonishingly deep. She finds rabbit holes even rabbits are unaware of.”Booklist, starred review

“America beat fascism once. Maddow’s timely study of enemies on the homefront urges that we can do so again.”Kirkus, starred reviews

Praise for Blowout

“An account of international intrigue, high finance, low characters, and outrageous legal and illegal acts that put the global economy and Western democracy at grave risk. . . . [Maddow] tells this tale deliberately and methodically, building her case not as a cable commentator, but as a Rhodes Scholar.”The Boston Globe

Blowout is a rollickingly well-written book, filled with fascinating, exciting and alarming stories about the impact of the oil and gas industry on the world today. . . . A brilliant description of many of the problems caused by our reliance on fossil fuels.”The New York Times Book Review

“I can’t stress enough what a great storyteller Rachel Maddow is. [She carries] the reader through some hair-raising journalism in such an engaging and propulsive fashion you simply cannot put the book down. . . . It has left a most lasting impression.”San Francisco Chronicle
Rachel Maddow is host of the Emmy Award–winning Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, as well as the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Drift and Blowout, and the New York Times bestselling co-author of Bag Man. Maddow received a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Stanford University and earned her doctorate in political science at Oxford University.
