``What I am experiencing as I am reading, is the amount of "pride" and gratitude with which my late father would have read the book. Those were stories with which he brought us up, and those are some of the experiences that he would have had to endure. Experiences which he and my mother tried hard to shelter us from, but not close our eyes and minds to the hardships our families had to endure, and yet still rise above. He always made us mindful of the fact that there were people who helped us to pull ourselves up by our "bootstraps". Thank you very much for your efforts and research to bring out the "beautiful" book, and your efforts to bring these injustices to the forefront.´´

- Grantham Jansen, former middle school principal in South Africa

"Based on his experiences as an educator over a five-decade career, Dodge provides an honest, sobering appraisal of the legacies of systemic racism in the US and South Africa.Summing Up: Recommended. All levels".
J. O. Gump, in CHOICE, 58 (9), 2021.
