Ciuba (1956?2024) was long-time professor of English at Kent State University and author of Walker Percy: Books of Revelations and Desire, Violence, and Divinity in Modern Southern Fiction: Katherine Anne Porter, Flannery O'Connor, Cormac McCarthy, Walker Percy, which won the 2008 C. Hugh Holman Award, given by the Society for the Study of Southern Literature for the best work in Southern literary criticism.
