History comes alive!

"This was an incredibly engaging story! The characters and storyline were detailed and descriptive and very lifelike. The whole story flowed so well. It brought out my curiosity in other areas to explore more of. A fantastic historical read."

Read This!

"This is one of the best books I have ever read. Almost unfortunately, I compare every book I read now to this one. Was it as good? Did it make me think and feel as much as this one? Every other book is no. This one stays with me. And if you watched the mini-series, don't let that fool you. The journey through the book could never be put onto screen. I highly recommend this book"

Janine (5/5)

Best book I have ever read. . .

"As soon as I picked it up, I could not put it down. It recounts the story of slaves through the eyes of a young girl all the way up to adulthood. Very emotional and well-written. This story highlights her resilience, bravery and courage through everything she faces and it makes for an epic journey. An absolute must read for everyone. I cannot sing it's praise enough."

Elisebeth (5/5)

Very well worth reading

"I knew the bare basic history of the slave trade prior to reading this book however this story put a human face on the dehumanizing and awful practise. The story follows an African woman who is kidnapped and forced to endure a terrible journey across the ocean to America. It tells the story of a brutal past. It is an incredibly good read - very well written and well researched. I learned a lot about the slave trade of the past and makes me sad that slavery still exists in our current world although it is more hidden than it was in the past."

Amazing

"I truly love this book. Many people are turned off by the length of this book, but it was a quick word. There is no hard language used, very easy to understand. However, it covers very tough subjects."

Simran (5/5)

Amazing

"Wow. I ordered this book because the story seemed fascinating and it received rave reviews when it came out a while ago. It is a stunning piece of literature and I read it very fast, as the story evolves rather quickly. I loved the character of Aminata and she will forever be with me. It is one of the best books I've ever read. It might seem like a relatively big novel, but it's very easy to read and I did not want to put it down. I think a sequel would be fantastic with different characters. I'm not generally a big fan of historical fiction, but this book was simply amazing."
