Required reading for any new parent

"This book became foundational to how we parented and cared for both of our newborns, the first 100 days or so. With little experience with babies before becoming parents, this book really helped us figure things out—giving us practical, research-backed, tips to navigate the early days. Importantly, after reading this book, we felt much more confident and equipped. I now gift this book to new moms/dads and recommend it every chance I get."

Not worth it

"Seems a bit outdated, boring to get through. Part of the book is spent giving background research and too little on practical information. I would just search up a summary of the strategies"

SRH. (3/5)

Good but long. . .

"Some great content but book could be cut in half. Very repetitive and wish he would've cut back on selling his Snoo crib in almost every chapter."

Meaghan (4/5)

Beau cadeau pour nouveaux parents

"C’était un cadeau et ma nièce était bien heureuse de le recevoir."

Louise (5/5)

Easy read, good tips on getting baby to sleep

"Has some good tips on sleeping but seems like this whole book could have been condensed into 3 chapters instead of a whole book."

Arie (4/5)

Get your baby to sleep with this book

"Really helped get my colicky baby to sleep during the beginning days. Research based material and easy to read."

Dianna (5/5)

For the New Parents

"Bought as gift for my son and daughter in law. They say its a grwat resource."

KellyM (5/5)

Best baby book!

"I loved this book when my little ones were young, and now I but it for every new min in my life! Such great advice in a digestible format that just makes sense!"

Mom 3. (5/5)

The Happiest Baby on the Block simply is a must read for all new parents.

"If there is one baby book that every new parent should read before bringing home their bundle of joy, Harvey Karp’s The Happiest Baby on the Block is that book. Clear, concise, exceedingly practical, and highly entertaining, Dr. Karp explains why babies are predisposed to crying in their first three months and how parents can calm that crying and help their newborn sleep longer. Dr. Karp explains why it is so crucial to understand what a newborn’s experience in the womb is like and how mimicking that environment makes all the difference in a newborn’s first three months during what he call the missing 4th trimester. Dr. Karp explains why newborns really would benefit from another trimester in the womb but since this is physiologically not possible why the next best thing is to adopt practices that give newborns a similar feeling of safety – the rocking motion, the background constant white noise, that feeling of constant touch and being cuddled in the womb. He details his 5S approach which includes Swaddling, Side/Stomach positioning, Shushing, Swinging, and Sucking. He explains both why each “S” works for newborns and how parents can best use these strategies. Further, Dr. Karp uses scientific studies and anthropological observations to debunk myths that would possibly stop new parents from using some or all of the techniques he outlines. The immediate benefit of reading Karp’s book and employing his strategies is better sleep and less crying for babies (and unquestionably the added bonus of better sleep for parents). Finally, interwoven throughout his book are serious discussions regarding the safety of newborns and how to mitigate the risk of SIDS by employing the 5S system. Thus, the 5S method Dr. Karp suggests parents should adopt to help their newborn become the happiest baby on the block will also help ensure they have the safest baby on the block. The Happiest Baby on the Block simply is a must read for all new parents."
