Synopsis
In 1839 Capt Isaiah Puckett sailed his US Whaling Ship 'Molly Puckett' into the whaling seaport, Papeete Tahiti, after nine months hunting whales in the Roaring '40s of the Great Southern Ocean.
At a 4th of July fete on the beach fronting the US Consulate, he falls madly in love with Hinareva Tauraatua, the magnificent daughter of a Tahitian High Chief.
His marriage to Hinareva, and the birth of their five children, making him the happiest whaling master in the South Pacific Whaling Fleet.
In 1849 a smallpox epidemic ravaged Tahiti killing thousands of Tahitians in a few months!
Hinareva is struck down by this terrible disease!
The sudden tragic loss of his beloved Hinareva breaks the heart of our intrepid Captain Isaiah Puckett.
He decides to take his two oldest children, Sarah and Joshua; sail home to Nantucket having been away for ten years, and buy a 2nd whaling ship for his prospering whale oil business in Tahiti.
Captain Puckett contracts tuberculosis during a stopover in Brazil and dies on Nantucket Island in 1852.
One hundred eighty years later, his great-grandson Ensign Isaiah Pucket ll, flies from Hawaii to Tahiti to rediscover his Tahitian Family roots, and search for the secret legacy recorded in Capt Puckett's 1850 Ship Logs and Tahiti Journals.
