Author Wayne Pettit was born in Port Arthur and raised in Fort William (Thunder Bay) and is a past president of the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society. He is a retired police officer with 30 years' service and the past president of the Sleeping Giant Bottle Club. He and his wife Mary reside in Shuniah Municipality where they operate Paper Chase Antiques.

Wayne has a lifelong interest in the history of Northwestern Ontario with family ties to the area dating back to 1903 on his father's side and 1913 on his mother's. He has been collecting bottles and other artifacts from Northwestern Ontario for many years and that interest, along with an interest in the history of the various bottling works, has culminated in this work. He has co-authored a book on the milk bottle and dairies of Thunder Bay and area, and is currently working on a book on the history of liquor merchants, breweries and wineries in Northwestern Ontario.
