The Place is a collective of stories and reflections about the establishment and development of Jackson's Cove, Green Bay, a small community on the northeast coast of Newfoundland, and the life it provided in the 1950s, four generations after its founding. Author Dennis Knight says Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are characterized by our strong sense of place and we commonly refer both to our province and the particular community as "the place." Thus, it became the natural title for this book.
"The writer has been immaculate in his recall of his childhood times, and of the personalities that embodied them. Part of his secret has been in his complete depiction of the time, place, and humanity of those who lived through and filled out thoose places now made mostly of memory." Gordon Pinsent
