* "Aly's ink-wash-and-pencil illustrations settle and soar along with the language.... This story, as both window and mirror, inevitably educates, but more important, it encourages pride in and respect for hijab through a tale of two sisters, their bond strengthened by faith."—Booklist, starred review

Beautiful

"A beautiful book with gorgeous artwork, and a wonderful addition to a classroom library"

Miya (5/5)

So touching

"Amazing book by an amazing author, the hype surrounding this book was definitely deserved. The illustrations are beautifully done, and by being described through a child's eyes, so many children will learn to respect each other's different choices."

Humaira (5/5)

Understanding

"Thoughtful, colourful illustrations and reads smoothly. Simple understanding of another’s journey of life."

KPRESCOD (4/5)

This one is powerful!

"I bought copies of the proudest blue for prizes for a school event in a school that is majority new Canadians that are Muslim. The feedback I received was that the parents had no idea there were story books available that were about their culture for their children to see themselves in print. Representation for our tiny humans is so important and it is so powerful to see the look on a kiddo’s face when they truly relate and see themselves in a story. More books like this please!!"

Amanda (5/5)

Great book

"It’s a great book for children. I really enjoyed reading it to my children at work. They asked questions and were curious to know more about the hijab."

SSKK (5/5)

Lindsay (5/5)

"A wonderful story to share with children. This belongs in a classroom library."

Lorra (5/5)

A great book about acceptance

"The first day of school is special to Faizah and very special for her sister Asiya. It's her first day to wear her hijab. She picks ocean blue and feels very proud. Younger sister Faizah gets very worried when she sees other children making fun of her big sister. But they ignore the bullies and become stronger together. This beautiful book is about accepting different cultures. It's about sisters and its about staying true to yourself. A great book to read to young ones and open up a discussion about different traditions."
