The strength and heartache with in family

"It was full of great folklore tales, shows the strength of female characters and the strength of family bonds."

Jamie (5/5)

Bon, mais avec certaines longueurs.

"Belle trame de fond, l'histoire nous fait voyager et les descriptions sont bonnes, mais certaines longueurs dans le récit font en sorte qu'il manque un certain rythme."

Annie D. (3/5)

A moving tale of grief and growth!

"I loved this beautifully written and moving story. A tale of family and grief set in Tasmania, Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands, it wonderfully explores the path to healing. I enjoyed the growth experienced by the main character, the 80's parties, the sheep, the myths and fairy tales, the romance, the descriptions of nature and the many strong women. It made me both tear up and laugh out loud. Thank you to NetGalley for the digital advance reading copy. 5/5 stars!"

Review of The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding

"I was undone by this book. It took a little bit to get into, mostly because of how significantly the main character is struggling, but you are immediately drawn into her inner world, you feel her hurt, her tenderness, and her need. The rest unravels in a beautiful mystery of finding yourself through unlikely connections and beautiful, haunting stories."

“Myths and legends are the touchstone to truth in this epic journey through love, loss, courage, and kinship. But The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding is also an elegant and mesmerising tribute to the places that hold our stories, heart, and memories. Holly Ringland writes with such tenderness, wit, and imagination about all these things that it’s impossible to come away from this magical story unchanged.” — Sally Piper, author of Bone Memories

“Another spell is cast by Holly Ringland. I was swept away by this triumphant and luminous story.” — Myfanwy Jones, Miles Franklin Literary Award shortlisted author for Leap

“Nobody writes about the pain of being alive more deftly than Holly Ringland. She brings such empathy to the topics of grief, love, family conflict, and loss. Some of her sentences took my breath away, and I found myself madly flicking pages, days later, to find them again for safekeeping. Astonishing in its scope, detail, and sensitivity, The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding is tender, magical, epic, funny, and devastating. This is a very special writer at her best.” — Kate Leaver, author of The Friendship Cure

“Vivid and soaring ... The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding is a haunting story of trauma and redemption that is nonetheless compelling and accessible. It’s a great recommendation for fans of Vanessa Diffenbaugh’s The Language of Flowers or Elizabeth Gilbert’s The Signature of All Things, as well as Ringland’s debut The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.” — Books+Publishing

“Through its powerful narrative surrounding grief, The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding reminds us to hold fast to our loved ones and to cherish every moment that we get to experience with them.” — White Wall Review

“A tribute to messy, uncontrollable grief, of making terrible decisions and hurting those around you in your pain, and getting to apologize and think about what healing might look like. Ringland paints Esther’s pain onto the page without judgment.” — The Miramichi Reader

The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding is an enjoyable read infused with folklore, mythology, and mystery … It is a story that is raw and honest, that explores the slippery parts of grief and how love and joy eventually help us resurface from it. Through Esther, Ringland shows us that no one survives grief alone.” — West Trade Review
