VenCo is an absolute thrill ride of a book, a page-turner of the highest order. It is also, as one would expect from Dimaline, a smart book. . . . It’s a perfect novel for a winter’s day, because sometimes, our reading life needs a touch of magic.” —Toronto Star

Reviews

If it arrives early, you have to pick it up early.

"Most of everything was great, and a perfectly fine online ordering experience. The delivery was expected to take about a month, because there wasn't a single copy of this book on sale in my province, which is fine, and I was delighted to be notified of its early arrival at my local Indigo, ready for pickup. Delighted, only until realizing that orders have to be picked up within a relatively short period during store operating hours. This is difficult for some people, and having a short pick-up window, especially before the expected arrival date, can be a stressful or even impossible situation for some folks. Nevertheless, upon arriving, the pick-up process was quick and simple, so my complaints lie only in policy."

Une belle surprise

"L’histoire est vraiment originale et cela fait un bien fou de lire quelque chose comme ça, avec des personnages de femmes attachantes. Ça donne envie de savoir ce que vont devenir ces sorcières!"

Lily L. (4/5)

The title is meaningless until you start to read the book. Having said that it is appropriate.

"This is a good book. It is a bit slow to start but once it gets going it is quite wonderful. It is a good feminist story with roots in fact and cultural realities."

Kendra (4/5)

Great!

"Awesome story with lots of different themes. I love this author."

Marie (5/5)

Excellent Witchy Read!

"I haven't finished it yet but I was quickly hooked and the story is great! I love the characters and the atmosphere of the book."

Alanna (5/5)

Good but wanted it to be more

"3. 5 stars - I liked it but didn't love it. I enjoyed the diverse characters, their character development, the history, and the entire premise. But I was waiting for it to be more. More exciting."

Sam B. (3/5)

Not my cup of T

"Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. You know, I sooo struggle between reading a bad book or DNFing. After the first few chapters I had to make the decision to DNF. There was so much swearing right from the get go, the plot was all over the place and the feminism was just not portrayed in a very attractive light. _x000D_ _x000D_ I took a peek at some of the other reviews and I may be missing something but this was definitely not for me. _x000D_ _x000D_ DNF’ed at 30%, maybe one day in the distant future when my TBR list is running low I’ll pick it up again. 😉_x000D_ _x000D_ ARC received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review."

Found Family Witchy Fantasy

"VenCo was one of my favourite books of 2023. It's a perfect, found family fantasy that seamlessly integrates aspects indigenous culture with our modern mythology about witches. I got this as a Christmas gift for a family member and she is excited to read it as well"

Selena (5/5)

Great Story

"This was a great read-so many different themes woven into a unique and lovely story about women."

Aknight (4/5)

A true ""just one more chapter"" book. Creative, thoughtful and full of intrigue.

"I finished this book in less than a week. I couldn't put it down. The only issue with this book is that it ended! I hope there's going to be a sequel!! It didn't surprise me that it was going to be good though when my favourite author gave it a great review! I may have a new favourite! You won't regret getting and reading this book!"
